Notion AI: Is It Worth $10/Month?
I’ve been paying for Notion AI for three months. That’s $30 spent. Time to decide if I’m keeping it or if it’s another subscription that sounds cool but doesn’t deliver.
What Notion AI Actually Is
It’s ChatGPT-level AI built directly into Notion. You can:
- Ask it to write something on a page
- Highlight text and ask it to improve/summarize/translate
- Ask questions about your existing Notion content
- Generate content that fits your workspace context
The key difference from ChatGPT: it lives inside Notion. No copying and pasting between tools.
What I Actually Use It For
Meeting Notes → Action Items (Weekly)
I dump rough meeting notes into Notion. Ask AI: “Extract action items from this.”
It pulls out tasks, often catches things I missed.
Time saved: 5-10 minutes per meeting. Maybe 30 minutes/week.
Quick First Drafts (A Few Times Weekly)
I need a doc outline or first draft. Instead of context-switching to ChatGPT, I generate it right in Notion where I’ll be writing anyway.
Time saved: Small per instance. Adds up.
Summarizing Long Pages (Occasionally)
Some pages in my workspace are walls of text. AI summarizes them into key points.
Time saved: Maybe 10 minutes/week.
Answering Questions About My Workspace (Rarely)
“When did we last discuss X project?” - It can search and synthesize.
I use this less than I expected to.
What I Don’t Use It For
Heavy Writing Tasks
For serious writing, I still use Claude. The quality is noticeably better.
Notion AI is fine for quick drafts and routine content. For anything important, I go to Claude.
Research
Notion AI doesn’t search the internet. It only knows what’s in my Notion workspace.
For research, Perplexity or ChatGPT is necessary.
Complex Analysis
Anything requiring deep thinking, I use Claude. Notion AI handles simple tasks but isn’t great at nuanced analysis.
The Real Question: Is It Better Than Just Using ChatGPT?
The integration argument:
Notion AI is built in. No copying text to ChatGPT, waiting, copying back. For quick tasks, this saves a minute each time.
If I do 10 quick AI tasks per day in Notion, that’s 10 minutes saved daily. Maybe 50 minutes/week. For $10/month, that’s reasonable value.
The counter-argument:
The AI quality is roughly equal to ChatGPT, which I’m already paying for. Am I paying twice for the same thing?
Kind of. I’m paying for convenience, not capability.
The Honest Assessment
Worth it if:
- You already use Notion as your primary workspace
- You do lots of quick AI tasks while writing/organizing
- The context-switching to ChatGPT genuinely bothers you
- $10/month is trivial for your budget
Not worth it if:
- You don’t use Notion much
- You already have a ChatGPT Plus workflow that works
- You need higher quality AI output (use Claude)
- You’re budget-conscious
My Decision
I’m keeping it. But barely.
The time savings are real but small. Maybe 30-60 minutes per week. For $10/month, that’s about $2-4/hour of time saved. Worth it for me, but not a slam dunk.
If I had to cut AI subscriptions, Notion AI would be among the first to go. It’s convenient, not essential.
The Alternatives
If you use Notion but don’t want to pay extra:
- Keep ChatGPT open in another tab
- Copy/paste when needed
- It’s annoying but works
If you don’t use Notion:
- Don’t buy Notion AI just for the AI
- Use ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro instead
- They’re better AI for the same or lower price
Quick Verdict
Notion AI is a nice-to-have, not a must-have.
It makes Notion better if you’re already a Notion user. It’s not worth switching to Notion for.
Rating: 6.5/10 - Genuinely useful integration, but the value depends heavily on how much you use Notion. Not transformative.

Notion AI can write drafts, summarize pages, extract action items, answer questions about your workspace, translate content, and brainstorm ideas - all within your Notion pages. It can't do anything outside Notion.
